JOHNNY URGES CORPORATE JAMAICA TO SUPPORT LOCAL STAND UP COMEDY

Johnny Live Comedy Bar launched the 2019 season in February at the Phoenix Theatre in New Kingston, and saw the ten week series automatically succeed. This proves that stand-up comedy is viable in not only Kingston, but other cities in Jamaica and can have a consistent market, proven by the evidence of patrons piling in every Tuesday night for the weekly laugh fest.

Kingston, considered by many as the hub of entertainment, attracts businesses and travelers alike and this makes it a perfect place for a sustainable entertainment alternative in the way of stand-up comedy. Johnny Live Comedy Bar’s success over the years, even with changing venues and layout, shows that stand-up comedy has grown locally and that there is a demand for this form of entertainment.

“People need a fresh new way to have fun and unwind and stand-up comedy is perfect for this. It’s no longer a question whether or not a weekly open mic stand-up comedy club can work in Kingston the focus must now be on its sustainability, that can be achieved by increasing sponsorship and  advertising support, improving on product delivery as well as increasing the talent pool.” Chris Johnny Daley, CEO of Johnny LIVE Productions explained.

A talent pool that Daley himself has expanded over the years from his Comedy Buss TV series and now with his Open mic segment of Johnny LIVE Comedy Bar. This season saw new talent emerge with acts such as Jamaican Bwoizy and Knockist while cultivating the talent of young comedians from previous seasons of Comedy Bar, allowing them the opportunity to take the stage and get the audience to react positively.

The growth of comedy is the number one motivator for Johnny LIVE Comedy Bar. Johnny wants comedians to work hard and take pride in the genre by consistently producing new material to keep fans interested. At the same time increased corporate support can help keep the initiative consistent and allow growth of the comedy club concept in other cities.

“As we near the close of the first season for 2019 we appreciate all our current Sponsors Boom Energy Drink, Wisynco, Kool Fm and Streetcred Jamaica. We look forward to adding more sponsors when the season returns this June. I want to take the time to thank the Johnny Live Comedy Bar faithfuls for their continued support, without them there would be no Comedy Bar,” Johnny added

This season of Johnny Live Comedy Bar will end on April 30 with a highly anticipated showcase of the Legendary Comedian Blakka Ellis.  The series is also set to re-enter Montego Bay at a new venue in a matter of weeks. Chris Daley will be heading off to Canada for a number of shows and return for the second season of Johnny LIVE Comedy Bar along with the Johnny Live Comedy Special at the end of  June 2019.
