JAHFRICAN
When you are surrounded by music from an early age, be
it kumina, where the drums and chanting bring us back to
our African roots or being in the company of some of the
greatest singers, musicians and performers to have come
out of Jamaica, it was no surprise that Jahfrican would
choose music for his future. After many years of
songwriting and recording greats of dancehall and
reggae alike, an experiment that was initially just for fun,
led to Jahfrican stepping into the spotlight.
The artiste birthed his Jamaican
-African alter ego by
doing Afrobeat dub
-plates for fun for renowned selectors
like Tony Matterhorn and Ricky Trooper. He has seen that
evolve into an actual artiste persona and now the
motherland is showing his music the desired appreciation.
Expect the unexpected as he brings you into his
musical kingdom, driven by his African heritage
and blended seamlessly with Jamaican culture to
give us a unique sound in the musical landscape.
He embraces the sound of the East through
Afrobeats and instruments from the motherland,
artfully blended with dancehall and reggae,
remaining true to all his roots while offering a
unique musical experience.
“Ole Friend”, released in 2020, gives ode
to the concept of real friendship that isn’t
affected by hatred or jealousy but is
unconditionally supportive throughout
any challenge. The single is an honest,
relatable, diverse approach, to
reminding us all of what true friendship
means.
With fans in Jamaica and the Caribbean
appreciating the track since its release,
Jahfrican is now excited that the single
has seen increased rotation in African
countries like Kenya, Uganda, Ghana
and parts of South Africa.
